My New Event - Bunbury Portrait Club!

I’m very proud to have created a new monthly art event at Bunbury Regional Art Gallery for all those lovers of portraiture! I’m so humbled by the amount of supporters of this event, with two sold-out events so far! It’s such a dream-come-true for me to surround myself with like-minded people making amazing art! There’s such an awesome art-loving community here in Bunbury and I just love it!

I’m always looking forward to the first Sunday of each month now as we get the opportunity to study a new face! Huge thank-you’s go to Kendall and Peter for sitting in the model’s chair so far! If you would like to be our next model, get in touch :)

Tree Street Art Safari

Saturday March 20, saw the always epic Tree Street Art Safari here in Bunbury, Western Australia. One day showcasing the best creative artists in the region, brings thousands of visitors and avid art collectors to a number of locations within the Tree Street region of town. I was fortunate to be hosted by Bunbury professional artist, Helena Sahm, whose studio allowed me display my body of work in a gallery format.

The day arrived with 38 degree heat and over 700 visitors made it up the hill to visit. I was so pleased to have sold three paintings and several cards on the day. I feel extremely grateful to have been part of this incredible event and for the tremendous support of the community. This kind of exposure means a great deal to someone new in town!

2021... Bring it ON!

After a long hiatus from using this website, I am back! Since my last blog post in February of 2017, A LOT has happened- so let me catch you up very quickly…I gave birth, and raised a now 3.5 year old daughter (Ila), moved across the country with our little family to Bunbury WA, snagged two jobs in my dream sector, began painting again after time away to be full-time mum, a global pandemic turned life upside down, and (more or less) here we are! Updating the website… But why now?? Because after all of these life events, I now feel confident and clear about my future as a practicing Visual Artist. I no longer cringe at the idea of describing myself as an artist and I want the world to see me as I really am! I’ve struggled with crippling self-doubt and have created road blocks and excuses time and again but now I’m stepping out of my own way and am more confident to celebrate this creative urge within.

It was such an honour to have won the 2021 Alcoa Harvey Art Prize last month, and on my 31st Birthday too! It felt like a confirmation that this is what I am meant to be doing. The painting that took out the prize (‘Motherhood’) was one that told a personal story of what it feels like to me being a mum, but with the intention for others to see something relatable in it.

Coming up for me are a couple of exciting events - Tree Street Art Safari will see my work on display at 28 Tuart St on Saturday 20th March. Also, I have entered both Vasse Art Award and Pemberton Art Prize, both of which will be coming up in early April. Then save the weekend of the 21-23 May in your diaries as I will be opening up my studio to the public for the Capel Makers Trail! Exciting opportunities ahead.

As well as this blog post to peruse, I have updated my Artist Bio and have listed recent artworks to give you an idea of what my art is about right now. I’ve also included prices on those that are available for sale, however, if you are interested in purchasing, please contact me via email (shereedohnt@gmail.com) or you can message me on my social media channels and I’ll reply super quick!

I’ll keep the time between blog posts a bit shorter next time, I promise.

Cheers,

Sheree

New Beginnings

Welcome to my shiny new website! I'm very excited for the future of this blog and in my own life as I have a few things in the making and I want to share them all with you. This website will act as my online art portfolio, while also keeping you all up to date on a new social drawing group I will be starting in a couple of locations in the Illawarra region, launching in late March 2017.

Firstly I wish to reveal that I am embarking on a new phase in my life: motherhood! Yes, I am five months pregnant and cannot wait for the arrival of my daughter in June.

Secondly, I have begun taking classes this year at RAVA (formerly the Visual Arts Faculty of West Wollongong TAFE), undertaking 'Experimental Drawing' with Jenny Johnson. Jenny is a marvellous tutor and we have so far developed our techniques in capturing tone in a variety of ways. I will upload some progress shots in my next blog.

Finally, I am looking for expressions of interest from fellow female artists/ illustrators/ art enthusiasts who would like to join me in starting a social night centred around drawing to a theme over dinner! I promise that it will be fun and a great way to try something new. I just love to draw but it can get very isolating being an artist working from home so collaborating and sharing new ideas with other like-minded women in a supportive environment is just the ticket! Feel free to get in touch with me via my 'Contact' page or on Facebook for more info.

I look forward to what the rest of 2017 holds for me and look forward to connecting with you on my new website!

Cheers
